Auroville Day in Italy
A presentation of Auroville
and fundraising for NCBS
Auroville Day in Formia, Saturday 9th June 2007.
AVI Italy, in collaboration with Formia Council, organized an event in order to collect funds for the New Creation Bilingual School (NCBLS).
As we saw from the AVI Meeting last October in Italy, Formia is a receptive place for these kinds of initiatives.
The format for the day was interactive–an exchange of information, responding spontaneously to questions and collecting funds for NCBLS. On Friday 8th June, we had a 1 hour live broadcast on local Radio Formia, to present the program for the next day and talk about AV life.
On Saturday 9th, we welcomed Pino from Auroville and his son, and then Perumal from NCBLS with Jasmine his girlfriend.
The event was hosted in the Archivio Storico of the Town Hall. The ground floor yard was adorned with flowers, plants and candles as Indian music played in the background. Tables were prepared with incenses, crafts, clothes, jewellery, pottery and Tsunamika and made even more welcoming with home made cakes: On the first floor, we prepared a photo exhibition by Pino - very much appreciated - and books from Sri Aurobindo and the Mother were available for sale, plus info materials about NCBLS and AV.
In a second big hall, loop videos screening “A dream of the Divine”, “The Genius of India' and Swiss video Utopia and Reality were showed alternatively.
All along the yard and the stairs we hung about 20 AV exhibition panels used during last October AVI Meeting.
The program which lasted from 6 – 10.30 pm was attended
by about 150 people including the Council member Giovanna Grimaldi, the local responsible for UNICEF projects, one member of Emergency NGO, teacher and students from Dante Alighieri primal School that is already contact with NCBLS, some local artists, and many friends from the local Savitri yoga center. Pino, Teresa, Mimmo and Francesca and myself along with other friends that some of you know personally, were mixing with the visitors answering questions, providing information, selling books and products, eating cakes and changing the videos.
Perumal was able to join us at about 8 pm after a 2,000 km drive from Frankfurt to Formia. After his arrival we presented the school and gave thanks to all the people gathered there - then Perumal fall asleep for 10 hours (poor guy)! But his presence was so important!
Some of the people present were really touched and grateful.
At 10.30pm we closed down the gate and finally relaxed.
In total, we raised from sales and donations about 2,200 euros. The Council is preparing to officialize a big donation in order to fulfil the major balance of the 15,000 euros needed by NCBLS for kitchen repairing and training program (the cost are for: the kitchen building 12.000, recognition by the Central Board of Secondary Education 1.000, salaries for new staff 2.000).
It was so nice to be again in Formia and work with our friends there for Auroville' sake in the spirit of karma yoga!
So thanks to them again we can call this Auroville dedicated event a full success!
And more initiatives are to be put in our agenda.......
