You've been in AV since years, how and when did you come to AV and how did you find out about AV?Well, I came on April 25, 1972. How I came? I took a single flight from France, no return ticket, no visa, I did not know then, I just wanted to come to India. I found out about Auroville when I arrived in Aspiration after 5 days from home.
You came by flight, where did you get off?North India. I got a bit lost in north India and suddenly it came to my mind that Pondicherry was once a French territory and then I took a train and came down south.
What were you doing before you came to Auroville?Carpenter, I am a professional carpenter.
Now that your term is nearly finished in the WC, what are you planning to do with all your free time?Actually my term is already finished. According to the resolution that was passed in the Residents Assembly beginning of June (2000), I'm to do what I have always done, and that is look after all AV's legal matters and reception of VIPs. I'm also helping the new Working Committee whenever they require my help, and go on with my carpentry work.
How did you learn to speak such fluent Tamil without French accent? What other languages do you speak? In the beginning of Auroville I had a carpentry workshop and I had forty workers. The most important thing that I always had in my mind was to learn the local language where I went. I had made this my motto when I was fifteen and I always wanted to come to India. It took me about three to four years to master the spoken Tamil language. I learned English also here, and I know a few words in Spanish and Italian because they are so close to French.
It's summer time right now, so we're spending a bit more time relaxing and napping.. What do you like to do in your free time (hobbies)?Well, I'm just back from a holiday with my kids for the first time in 13 years. There are two things I enjoy and that is computers and watching some good films. But I mean I don't have much of free time.
